About Darren Millar

Darren is a local and experienced politician with track record of campaigning success on behalf of those he represents.

Having been brought up in Towyn and educated in Abergele and Rhos-on-Sea, Darren started his career as an accountant in Rhyl before becoming a senior manager in the charity sector. He lives in Kinmel Bay with his wife and their two grown up children.

Darren has been the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Clwyd West since 2007 where he has held a number of Shadow Ministerial responsibilities in the Senedd, including Health and Education.

Over the years, Darren has campaigned on a range of local issues, including:

  • NHS performance and waiting times 
  • access to dentistry
  • flood defences
  • protecting hospitals and schools from closure
  • better broadband services
  • controversial local development plans
  • public transport and road safety improvements

In 2000/2001, Darren became the youngest serving Mayor in Wales when he served the township of Towyn and Kinmel Bay. He has also served as a member of Conwy County Borough Council, the North Wales Police Authority and the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

Darren is a committed Christian, avid reader and amateur astronomer.
